Job Summary

Provide high-level, strategic legal advice and counseling on employment law, fundraising compliance, gaming issues, and charitable registrations as assigned by senior leadership. Review and draft contracts, manage workplace investigations, ensure federal and state reporting requirements are met, and represent ALSAC with government officials, donors, and third parties. Handle complex legal matters from inception to completion with minimal supervision while identifying enterprise-wide impacts and developing internal policies. This role supports the mission of finding cures for childhood cancer by ensuring legal adherence across diverse operational areas.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate Degree
  • Licensed to practice law in TN
  • 5-7 years of experience in a legal environment or related experience handling employment matters, including but not limited to employee leave and accommodations, federal and state nondiscrimination matters, state and federal DOL matters, policy review, federal and state workplace reporting requirements, FCRA compliance, and workplace investigations
  • Ability to practice law in a variety of areas
  • Ability to work through issues internally and externally for the good of the organization
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Ability to handle more complex legal assignments independently and appropriately
  • Ability to communicate the results to non-lawyers in a pro-active and customer friendly way even as it relates to difficult issues
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to communicate legal issues clearly and understandably to non-lawyers
  • Ability to multi-task and handle a number of high level and high stress projects
  • Strong ability to work with business partners within the organization and those outside the organization, such as outside attorneys, entities, government officials, donors and other third-parties
  • Speak and write in a clear and understandable manner
  • Understands complex verbal and written instructions
  • Excellent proofreading skills
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with regulatory agencies and/or oversight bodies and/or in-house for a large organization
  • Ability to interpret relevant regulations and contractual provisions
  • Litigation and contract experience
