Job Summary
Lead and deliver enterprise BI solutions as the Corporate Application Technical Leader (BI Specialist) in Toronto. Responsibilities include directing cross-divisional teams through the full lifecycle of critical enterprise BI applications and information, developing and maintaining data models and semantic layers, designing interactive dashboards and reports, ensuring data security and governance, and guiding project planning, testing, and quality assurance. Key skills include Power BI and Tableau development, data integration from multiple sources, DAX and Tableau calculations, data warehousing concepts, Azure data tools (e.g., Data Factory, Synapse, SSIS), data connectivity across cloud and on-premise sources, and strong stakeholder communication and leadership abilities. Candidate must demonstrate expertise in data visualization, performance optimization, and delivering data-driven insights across performance, financials, risk, and other KPIs, with the ability to manage timelines, requirements, and governance in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience integrating data from multiple sources including relational databases, cloud platforms, and third-party APIs for BI tools
- Extensive experience building interactive dashboards, reports, and visual analytics with Power BI and Tableau
- Experience developing optimized data models and semantic layers with calculations and queries (e.g., DAX, Tableau calculations, LOD expressions)
- Strong experience with Power BI, Tableau, and/or Microsoft Fabric; translating business requirements into data-driven insights across performance, financials, risk, and other KPIs
- Knowledge of secure data practices including data protection in transit and at rest, RBAC, encryption, and data masking within BI/data platforms
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve data modeling, performance, and visualization issues across BI tools
- Understanding of BI platform governance and deployment models (Power BI/Fabric, Tableau) and licensing considerations
- Understanding of data warehousing concepts; familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Synapse, SSIS is a plus
- Knowledge of various data connections (on-prem and cloud) such as OData, Salesforce, Google, SQL Databases
- Strong ETL, data cleansing, and performance optimization for large datasets
- Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to present and document for clients
- Strong customer service orientation and ability to manage stakeholder relationships
- Excellent problem-solving, leadership, facilitation, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and independently
- Advanced time management and estimation capabilities for concurrent tasks/projects
- Ability to develop technology standards, techniques, and product specifications
- Flexibility to work hours including days, afternoons, nights, and weekends; on-call for production systems
- Experience developing and sustaining enterprise information structures and applications across the application lifecycle
- Ability to support and guide project teams; provide senior technical consulting and QA/testing expertise
