Job Summary
Lead School Resource Officers and mentor staff while patrolling Board of Education facilities to ensure safety during operating and non-operative hours. Plan and implement School Safety Readiness plans, assist in controlling building access, and conduct preliminary investigations of incidents on property. Provide direct supervision to assigned officers, support serious incident investigations, and testify in criminal court or school disciplinary tribunals when required. Enforce Board policies and state laws, including conducting random searches consistent with procedures. Assist with training opportunities and ensure compliance with security strategies, goals, and directives set by the Zone Sergeant or Operations Lieutenant.
Required Qualifications
- Must possess a high school diploma
- Associate's degree
- considerable college coursework in criminology, law enforcement, or related field
- Must be certified by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.) as a Police Officer
- Possession of a valid state driver's license or equivalent
- First aid and CPR certification
- willingness to acquire first aid and CPR certification within a specified time
- A minimum of eighteen months of experience as a School Resource Officer (SRO)
- Must not have been convicted of a felony or some other crime involving moral turpitude
- Must have sufficient physical strength to intervene in fights and physically restrain persons
- Must have stamina and physical ability to spend extended periods standing and walking to complete security patrol duties of assigned facility and athletic events
- Ability to patrol outdoors in inclement and extreme weather conditions
- Must agree to work an eight-hour shift out of any twenty-four hours, seven days a week
- Required to occasionally work overtime with appropriate compensation
- Required to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as assigned by the Director of School Safety
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects (100 lbs. regularly and over 100 lbs. as needed)
- Required to wear the designated security uniforms
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Ability to frequently walk, stand, and sit
- Ability to frequently talk and hear
