Job Summary
Conduct intake, handling, and sampling of diamond drill core using pallet jacks, forklifts, or manual labor. Photograph drill core, verify photo quality, label images, and perform specific gravity, point load, and in-situ tests. Cut core with wet saws, insert QA/QC samples, and complete associated logbooks and lab analysis forms. Palletize and store core boxes in the warehouse, deliver sampled material to the assay lab, and prepare shipment lists for external laboratories. Maintain daily housekeeping, ensure proper PPE usage, and operate forklifts to move core skids and materials. Store pulps and rejects as required while communicating regularly with supervisors and assisting geologists.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a valid driver's license
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Safety Sensitive position requiring all persons assigned to activity be drug free
- Ability to lift 50 lb. core boxes safely and comfortably
- Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions; dusty, hot weather
- Ability to perform essential job functions in an environment with varied noise levels
Desired Qualifications
- Interest in geology and mine operations
- Good communication skills, literacy and numeracy skills
- Previous experience working as a geotechnical technician is considered an asset
- Knowledge of drilling procedures is an asset
- Experience with digital data entry, comfortable with use of computers, tablets and digital data files
- Comfortable with math, the use calculators and measuring tapes
- Experienced with digital cameras and digital picture file types is an asset
- Experience working in a diverse and multicultural environment
- Ability work with contractors and all persons onsite in a respectful and professional manner
- MSHA certification preferred and will be required to obtain during 1st or 1st 3 days of employment
