Job Summary
Performs a variety of laboratory examinations and tests in the Core Lab, including specialized chemistry procedures, and ensures rapid and accurate results. Responsible for technical operation of special chemistry services, training and competency assessment of lab staff, and ongoing professional development. Conducts annual competency checks and oversees new employee training and student teaching under the Core Lab Manager. Reviews unusual, abnormal, and critical results; communicates with medical staff and peers; participates in workflows to improve productivity and apply new technology. Assists with equipment implementation, QA, and procedure updates; maintains supply inventory and cost per test; supports a positive departmental environment and adherence to hospital policies. Requires registration/certification as an MLS/MT/CLS-type professional and a bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science with a minimum of four years of hospital laboratory experience. Schedule: 40 hours/week, evenings 2:30 PM–11:00 PM with rotating weekends and on-call weekends.
Required Qualifications
- Registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT, MLS, CLT, CLS) by the Board of Registry as ASCP, AMT, AAB (AAB with 15yrs.experience), NCA, or HHS certification or equivalent
- Education Required: Baccalaureate degree in Medical Laboratory Science leading to ASCP certification or equivalent
- Experience Required: Minimum 4 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in a Hospital laboratory
- Licensure/Certification required per above
- Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Ability to understand and perform special chemistry tests
- Competency assessment and training responsibilities
- On-call and rotating shifts
- All standard lab safety and biohazard precautions
