Job Summary
Coordinate and support the continuum of settings and services for students with disabilities, ensuring participation in the general education environment per IEPs. Chair original, re-evaluation, and emergency placement team meetings; develop Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and 504 accommodation plans; secure parent signatures; and chair annual review meetings. Manage activities relating to compliance with state and federal special education regulations, including scheduling assessments, tracking progress reports, and presenting IEPs. Provide support to special education teachers regarding research-based instructional and social-emotional-behavioral practices, and collaborate with the Principal to align student schedules with IEPs and 504 plans. Engage families as partners in planning and problem-solving while maintaining a culturally competent practice. Participate in dispute resolution meetings, hearings, and Medicaid reimbursement activities.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Special Education (Moderate Disabilities or Severe Disabilities)
- Massachusetts License in School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor
- Massachusetts License in School Psychologist
- Massachusetts License in Speech-Language Pathology
- Comprehensive knowledge of and professional experience with Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Regulations
- Comprehensive knowledge of and professional experience with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
- Comprehensive knowledge of and professional experience with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
- Knowledge of and professional experience in special education, including the IEP process
- Knowledge of and professional experience in special education, including special education instructional programs
- Knowledge of and professional experience in special education, including collaboration with special education professionals
- Knowledge of and professional experience in special education, including building positive, supportive relationships with parents of students with special needs
- Ability to meet the BPS Standards of Effective Practice
- Demonstrated capability to work collaboratively with school administrators
- Demonstrated capability to work collaboratively with direct service providers
- Demonstrated capability to work collaboratively with families
- Demonstrated capability to work collaboratively with students
- Demonstrated capability to work collaboratively with outside partners
- Three years of successful experience in an urban school system
- Three years of successful experience in an urban human service setting
