Job Summary
Coordinate and conduct the developmental screening process for Child Find, administering tools to children ages 2–5 and interpreting results for families. Plan, organize, and implement screening activities while maintaining accurate records of referrals and communications. Answer and manage the Child Find screening hotline to respond to inquiries from families, community agencies, childcare providers, and healthcare professionals. Facilitate Student Educational Committee meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support identification and referral of children with disabilities. Ensure seamless transitions from eligibility to special education services and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local Child Find requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Special Education, Special Education, Early Childhood Education or a closely related field
- Three (3) years of experience working with children in an educational or early intervention setting
- Experience collaborating with families, multidisciplinary teams, community agencies, and school based providers
- Hold or be eligible for a valid teaching license which meets Commonwealth of Virginia requirements with specific endorsement in Special Education
- Thorough knowledge of child development and developmental milestones for children ages birth through five
- Knowledge of developmental screening practices and early childhood assessment procedures
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to Child Find, preschool special education, and eligibility determination
- Ability to communicate effectively with families regarding developmental concerns, screening processes, and special education procedures
- Ability to interpret developmental information and screening data to support appropriate referrals and decision-making
- Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with families, community partners, and school personnel
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain attention to detail, and meet established timelines
- Ability to exercise sound professional judgment, maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive information appropriately
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state special education regulations related to Child Find and preschool special education
