Job Summary
Visit uncovered nursing homes, assisted living, and family-type homes to ensure residents have access to an Ombudsman. Mentor volunteers, travel throughout Suffolk County for coverage, and assist residents and families in developing councils and navigating the long-term care system. Escalate critical issues to the Program Coordinator and accurately complete all required reports and documentation by deadlines. Attend staff meetings, in-service trainings, and participate in the certification training of new Ombudsman volunteers while ensuring compliance with state regulatory requirements. Interact effectively with service provider agencies and advocacy organizations to provide resources and referral information. Obtain NYS Ombudsman certification and demonstrate cultural competency in communications and complaint resolution. Work 21 hours per week in Bay Shore, NY.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in human services, social work or related field of study
- NYS Certified Ombudsman certification
- Valid, clean New York State Driver's License
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office
Desired Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in working with older adult and disabled individuals
- Understanding of aging, health care and long-term care issues
