Job Summary
Activity Development Coordinator at NYSCI focuses on daily exhibit operations and the development/iteration of activities for Design Lab and facilitated exhibitions. Responsibilities include turning exhibitions on/off, daily prep/reset, troubleshooting, maintaining loose parts, and training staff in running activities. You’ll develop new experiences for facilitated exhibits, iterate ideas based on feedback, create instructional materials and digital content, share activities with other museums, embed inclusive practices, and design/fabricate materials in collaboration with design and fabrication teams. You’ll maintain budgets and reports, support operationalization of Design Lab and Makerspace programming, and participate in creative brainstorms and prototyping. Supervisory duties involve Fellows/Residents and coaching Explainers. Qualifications emphasize a BA/BS in design/education-related fields, 2-5 years in hands-on learning environments, proficiency with project management and standard software, familiarity with CAD/3D tools, strong communication, teamwork, and flexibility to work evenings/weekends. The position offers a salary of $50,000–$53,000 and a comprehensive benefits package, with full-time, regular status at NYSCI in Corona, NY.
Required Qualifications
- B.A. or equivalent degree in design, learning pedagogy or education, arts, making, engineering, or other equivalent experience.
- 2-5 years’ experience facilitating, running, or developing human-centered, mission-based offerings in a Science or Children’s Museum, or other hands-on learning environment.
- Proficient in computer skills, including project management/scheduling software, spreadsheets, and email.
- Experience with Creative Suite, Vectorworks, SketchUp, or CAD is a plus.
- One to three years’ experience developing, managing, and or facilitating creative hands-on activities.
- Demonstrated experience and competence using hand tools, electronics, computer software/hardware, and other various technologies for students, educators, or families.
- Design-thinking perspective for activity development and exhibit operations.
- Strong communication skills (written, oral, visual).
- Experience working with teams and translating ideas into programming.
- Willingness to participate in events outside normal hours (evenings/weekends).
- Ability to supervise Fellows/Residents in specific exhibit areas and coach Explainers.
