Job Summary

Cook at The Salvation Army Canada and Bermuda, responsible for preparing quality meals for community lunch and Evergreen Shelter guest meals, adhering to Food Safe standards and HACCP guidelines, labeling and storing foods, managing leftovers, and coordinating with Food Coordinator and volunteers to ensure timely, safe, and high-quality service. The role requires Food Safe Level 1, relevant safety trainings, a minimum of one year of institutional kitchen experience, English proficiency, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to lift at least 23 kg; responsibilities include menu preparation, kitchen sanitation, records, and collaboration with the team to support mission-driven community service.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of High School, Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program for one academic year is an asset
  • Food Safe Level 1 (Food Safe 2 and Asset)
  • First Aid Certification (an asset)
  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • Valid Driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Excellent team and interpersonal, organizational and time-management skills
  • Able to handle physical demands which include lifting, pushing or pulling a minimum of 23 kg
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
  • WHIMIS and Universal Precautions Online New Hire Employee Health and Safety courses
