Job Summary
Prepare food qualifying for the next day, including desserts and sack lunches, while assisting with meal preparation as directed by the Lead Cook. Obtain supplies from storerooms, coolers, or freezers for upcoming cooking tasks and organize, supervise receipt of deliveries, and maintain food service areas. Clean and sanitize work areas, skillets, and ovens daily to ensure full compliance with health and sanitation requirements. Secure food and equipment from theft, work with volunteers in the Food Service Department, and document all daily cleaning tasks. Maintain all documentation properly and perform other duties as assigned to efficiently manage the kitchen.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- One year food service experience
- Able to work as a team member and well with others
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- An attention to detail
- A positive attitude and ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities
- A willingness to support the mission of The Salvation Army
- Must possess current City of Phoenix Food Service/Sanitation Certificate
- Must possess, or be eligible to receive, a fingerprint clearance card
- Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check
- Must be able to operate the equipment available while doing the required job function
- Must be able to regularly walk, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms on a continuous basis
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
- Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Must have the ability to operate telephone, a desktop or laptop computer
- Must have the ability to access and produce information from a computer
- Must have the ability to understand written information
