Job Summary
Review daily menus, check for food allergies, and adjust recipe quantities based on head count. Prepare, season, and cook soups, meats, vegetables, and desserts according to pre-determined menus, then portion food onto sanitized trays. Observe internal temperatures, clean serving lines and prep areas, and complete daily logs for production and inventory. Interact with juvenile residents to accommodate meal changes and answer questions. This role requires standing for extended periods, lifting up to 60 pounds, and operating kitchen equipment safely. If designated, deliver meals by van using a valid driver's license.
Required Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent
- One year of institutional/cafeteria cooking experience
- Knowledge of nutritional requirements
- Knowledge of institutional food service operation
- Skill in the operation of a variety of institutional kitchen equipment and utensils
- Skill in operating a computer
- Ability to make arithmetical computations to adjust weights and measurements in recipes
- Ability to read small, printed words and numbers accurately
- Ability to positively interact with juvenile residents
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds and push and pull 60 pounds
- Ability to work in a commercial kitchen environment with various levels of heat and noise
- Valid driver's license from state of residence
- State mandated auto liability insurance
- Properly licensed, reliable vehicle
- Ability to operate a vehicle in a safe and prudent manner
