Job Summary
Cook in a long-term care facility prepares and serves meals for residents according to regular and therapeutic menus, following standardized recipes and production sheets. Responsibilities include setting up equipment and supplies, accommodating prescribed diets and texture variations, ensuring meals are served on time and at appropriate temperatures, and maintaining records of menu changes, deliveries, and temperature checks. In the absence of the Dietary Manager, the role involves making menu changes, directing Dietary Aides in food preparation and serving activities, and coordinating routine operations. Must meet qualification options for Cook/chef training or certification, with Red Seal preferred, and comply with health and safety requirements (negative vulnerable sector check and TB skin test within specified windows). The position is in-person at Goderich, ON, Canada and reports to the Food Service Manager.
Required Qualifications
- Chef training or culinary management certificate or diploma meeting OLTCH Act requirements
- Certificate of qualification as a Cook issued by an authority meeting OLTCH Act requirements
- Post-secondary diploma in food and nutrition management or post-secondary degree in food and nutrition
- Red Seal certification preferred
- Experience in institutional large quantity cooking preferred
- Ability to work safely following established safety practices and procedures
- Ability to read and write English and understand moderately complex instructions
- Proven ability to lead others in a busy environment
