Job Summary
Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and catered events while operating kitchen equipment like ovens, stoves, and mixers. Inspect and clean food preparation areas, ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperatures, and maintain inventory by rotating stock and following labeling procedures. Monitor cooking processes using thermometers, bake, roast, and steam meats and vegetables, and wash, peel, and cut produce. Compile food usage records, assist with forecasting, and support culinary staff at various stations. Provide excellent customer service by greeting and thanking guests.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures
- Manual dexterity
- Auditory and visual skills
- Ability to sit, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, pull, and lift items weighing 40 pounds or less
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to operate equipment including but not limited to an oven, stove, dishwasher, slicer, coffee machine, steamer, mixer, and chef's knives
- Ability to monitor, cook, and prepare foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently using methods such as tasting, smelling, or utilization of food thermometers
- Ability to ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperature by regulating temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, roasters and other equipment
- Ability to inspect and clean food preparation areas, such as equipment and work surfaces, or serving areas to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices
- Ability to ensure freshness of food and ingredients by checking for quality, keeping track of old and new items, rotating stock and following food company labeling & dating procedures
- Ability to season, weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes with guidance from supervisor, using various kitchen utensils and equipment
- Ability to wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables to prepare for consumption
- Ability to carve, trim and prepare meats and seafood for hot or cold service
- Ability to bake breads, rolls, cakes, and pastries
- Ability to compile and maintain records of food usage
- Ability to assist with inventory
- Ability to follow food specification amounts provided by supervisor
- Ability to assist in forecasting of preparation needs
- Ability to prepare and serve food to customers in a timely manner
- Ability to communicate with supervisor regarding kitchen equipment/supply needs
- Ability to adhere to and promote company standards for safety, proper food handling practices, sanitation, uniform guidelines, and productivity
- Ability to provide excellent customer service to include being attentive, approachable, greeting and thanking customers
- Ability to work in a kitchen environment whereby employees may be exposed to and/or required to operate equipment, including but not limited to, an oven, stove, dishwasher, slicer, coffee machine, steamer, mixer and chef's knives
- Ability to be frequently exposed to heat, steam, fire and noise
