Job Summary
Plan menus, order supplies, and prepare breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks in compliance with USDA regulations and Head Start standards. Serve meals in a family-style setting while participating in nutrition learning activities with children. Maintain kitchen sanitation by sweeping floors, disinfecting surfaces, and storing food safely. Track meal counts, vendor invoices, and inventory; submit monthly reports to the Health and Nutrition Coordinator. Assist with special events, bakery items, and staff meetings. Work independently while adhering to program policies, background check requirements, and CPR/First Aid certification.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Food Handlers Certificate
- Desire to work with pre-school children, staff and parents
- Knowledge of nutrition, food preparation, cooking in quantity, safety and sanitation
- Annual physical examination including TB skin test or chest x-ray
- Certification in CPR/1st Aid within 90 days of hire
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to make or have travel arrangements for grocery shopping purposes
- Willingness to sign confidentiality agreement
- Willingness to sign Standards of Conduct agreement
- Practice of good hygiene and good manners at all times
- Willingness to wear a hair restraint, proper clothing and footwear (no sandals), and a clean apron
- Willingness to participate in Head Start training planned for food service personnel
- Willingness to feed children if they come in early, stay late or are hungry
- No prior conviction of Child Abuse/Neglect or any violent crimes
- Two (2) years documented experience in food services field (alternative to GED)
Desired Qualifications
- Documentation of pursuit of a GED (alternative to high school diploma)
