Job Summary
Cook – Retail & Nutrition Services prepares a variety of foods to recipe specifications, ensures proper temperatures are maintained and temperatures are documented, and maintains cleanliness of work areas. Responsibilities span cafeteria, patient dining, bakery, grill, catering, or prep cook tasks; operates on-room service lines, portions accurately, batches food for service, follows menu cycles and projected servings, and uses standardized recipes including modified diets like Ornish meals. The role emphasizes maintaining quality, customer service, and compliance with sanitation, safety, and department policies, with ongoing collaboration with management to improve food quality and control costs. The position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks, and lift up to 50 lbs, with shifts including evenings and alternating weekends/holidays. Primary job assignments include Ruby Cafeteria Retail Batch/Action/Grill Cook with relief assignments in Nutrition Departments, under WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals."
Required Qualifications
- Must have a valid Food Service Worker Permit (FSWP) from Monongalia County Health Department (MCHD) prior to starting OR obtain a MCHD Temporary FSWP no later than the first Wednesday of employment and a permanent MCHD FSWP within 1 month of start date (next available class). Must have a valid MCHD FSWP throughout employment.
- Must pass WV DHHR Protected Services Record Check and WV CARES fingerprint-based criminal background check if assigned to Child Development Center, Chestnut Ridge Center, or Center for Hope and Healing.
- Preferred qualifications also include High School Diploma or Equivalent (though not mandatory)
- 2 years quantity cooking experience preferred (hot production)
- Possesses ability to read and follow recipes, understand dietary restrictions (modified diets), and ensure sanitation and safety guidelines are met.
