Job Summary
Prepare food in accordance with standard menus, facility procedures, and prescribed dietary and sanitary regulations. Follow recipes, ensure proper storage of food and supplies, and supervise serving of meals by wait staff. Direct and assist in cleaning work areas, equipment, and floors while ensuring all residents have received meals. Adhere to fire and safety practices and procedures. Complete the daily Quick Check departmental review, test and record temperatures of hot and cold foods, and properly discard expired or contaminated items. Enforce hand washing, glove use, and infection control policies. Control cross-contamination, prepare foods using standardized recipes, and ensure meals are served within required hours. Perform daily and scheduled cleaning of the kitchen and equipment, manage the close of the kitchen for PM shifts, and maintain overall departmental function in the absence of the Nutrition Services Manager.
Required Qualifications
- Food handlers' card required, or Food Safety Certification where required by local ordinance
- Must have fundamental understanding of sanitation, cleanliness, and personal hygiene
- Must be able to tactfully communicate with co-workers, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and the general public
- Must have regular, predictable, and dependable attendance
Desired Qualifications
- One year experience as a cook in hotel, restaurant, hospital, or similar institution preferred
