Job Summary
Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and catered events while operating kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, and slicers. Inspect and clean food preparation areas to ensure safe, sanitary practices, and monitor cooking temperatures using thermometers. Wash, peel, cut, and prepare fruits and vegetables; bake, roast, broil, and steam meats, fish, and vegetables according to recipes. Carve meats and seafood, compile food usage records, and assist with inventory and forecasting. Provide excellent customer service by greeting and thanking clients while adhering to company standards for safety, sanitation, and productivity. Work full-time M-F hours in a kitchen environment with exposure to heat and steam.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to lift items weighing 40 pounds or less
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Manual dexterity
- Auditory and visual skills
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures
- Ability to operate equipment including oven, stove, dishwasher, slicer, coffee machine, steamer, mixer, and chef's knives
- Ability to inspect and clean food preparation areas to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices
- Ability to ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperature by regulating temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, roasters and other equipment
- Ability to check for quality of food and ingredients, keeping track of old and new items, rotating stock and following food company labeling & dating procedures
- Ability to monitor, cook and prepare foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently using methods such as tasting, smelling, or utilization of food thermometers
- Ability to bake, roast, broil, and steam meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods
- Ability to season, weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes with guidance from supervisor using various kitchen utensils and equipment
- Ability to wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables to prepare for consumption
- Ability to carve, trim and prepare meats and seafood for hot or cold service
- Ability to compile and maintain records of food usage
- Ability to assist with inventory
- Ability to follow food specification amounts provided by supervisor
- Ability to assist in forecasting of preparation needs
- Ability to prepare and serve food to customers in a timely manner
- Ability to communicate with supervisor regarding kitchen equipment/supply needs
- Ability to adhere to and promote company standards for safety, proper food handling practices, sanitation, uniform guidelines, and productivity
- Ability to provide excellent customer service including being attentive, approachable, greeting and thanking customers
