Job Summary
Prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dietary restricted foods following standardized recipes and production sheets. Direct dining staff to ensure quality food products are provided for residents while maintaining proper sanitation and equipment safety. Test and taste meals to verify flavor, consistency, and temperature, and adjust portion sizes or quantities as requested. Adhere to infection control protocols, including hand washing and protective equipment, and report any hazardous conditions or accidents immediately to supervisors. Work in a well-lit, ventilated area subject to frequent interruptions and potential exposure to infectious waste.
Required Qualifications
- Must have or be willing to receive a Hepatitis A vaccine if working within St. Louis County (in accordance with County health regulations)
- Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile residents within the facility
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, etc., in excess of 50 pounds throughout the work day
- Must be able to stand, walk, use hands to handle, finger, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear
- Must be able to sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Must be able to climb or balance self
- Must be able to taste or smell
- Must be able to work in a well-lighted and ventilated working area that has its own temperature control system (air conditioning and heat)
- Must be able to handle frequent interruptions
- Must be able to handle exposure to falls, burns, odors, etc., throughout the work day
- Must be able to handle exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to the AIDS and Hepatitis B virus
- Must be able to handle sudden temperature changes
Desired Qualifications
- Two years' experience of institutional cooking, prep cooking or kitchen work preferred
