Job Summary
Prepare, cook, and serve nutritious meals and snacks for summer camps, weekend programs, and school lunch services while collaborating with the Food Services Manager on menu planning and inventory management. Monitor food supplies to minimize waste, ensure kitchen sanitation meets health department standards, and support emergency response protocols. Assist in training kitchen staff and complete other duties assigned to support council goals. This full-time role requires a ServSafe certification, CPR/First Aid training, and experience in high-volume commercial kitchens. Available for early mornings, evenings, and Wednesday through Sunday shifts in Julian, CA.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a commercial kitchen environment, preparing food for large groups
- Current/valid ServSafe Certification
- Current Management ServSafe requirement or ability to receive it within 3 months of employment
- Current CPR/First Aid Certification
- Able to work in Julian, in a camp environment with varying weather and temperatures
- Must be able to walk (on uneven terrain) and stand for long periods of time; ability to lift and/or push up to 50lbs
- Reliable transportation; ability to arrive on time for assigned work shift(s)
- Available and willing to work early mornings, evenings, Wednesday - Sunday or as needed
- Belief in the mission and values of Girl Scouting; be willing to subscribe to the principles expressed in the Promise and Law and Girl Scouts San Diego mission, vision and values
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with a school lunch program, or in a camp food service environment is a plus
- Experience with menu planning for large and small groups
- Experience using high-quality and seasonal fresh ingredients
- Ability to follow recipes, use measurement tools when appropriate
- Experience cooking in a high-volume environment is highly preferred
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize deadlines, work in a professional manner in a fast-paced youth-focused environment
- Exceptional communication skills with an ability to handle conflict and resolve issues with diplomacy and tact
- Ability to build and maintain positive collaborative working relationships
