Job Summary
Cook I at Davidson College’s Davidson Dining Services is responsible for preparing high-quality hot and cold dishes according to standardized recipes and instructions for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and catered events in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen. Responsibilities include portioning, cooking, presenting food, ensuring correct temperatures, assisting with production planning and ordering, maintaining sanitation, and collaborating with coworkers and supervisors. Night and weekend work required; 9-month part-time benefited position with potential to work across campus dining locations as needed. Qualifications include HS diploma/GED, minimum 3 years’ experience in a high-volume kitchen, safe food-handling knowledge, and food-handler certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days); Allertrain Lite certification or ability to obtain within 30 days. Preferred qualifications include an Associate’s degree in culinary arts and ServSafe certification. The role requires physical endurance for lifting, standing, and repetitive movements, and adherence to health codes and campus hospitality standards.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a high-volume kitchen able to produce hot and cold food; knowledge of safe food handling. practices and ensure compliance of state health guidelines.
- HS diploma/GED
- Experience in high volume / batch cooking.
- Food handler certified or ability to get certified in 30 days of employment.
- Allertrain lite certified or ability to get certified in 30 days of employment.
- Ability to read and understand recipes and measurements.
- Strong knife skills.
- Knowledge of various cooking techniques.
- To know how to utilize kitchen equipment and cleaning equipment.
- This role has physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, carrying and / or extended walking and standing.
