Job Summary
Prepare and cook menu items in accordance with planned menus and standardized recipes while ensuring all food is cooked and held at proper temperatures. Assist with food prep, portioning, and service during meal periods, maintaining high standards of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen cleanliness. Monitor inventory levels and notify the supervisor of supply needs, assisting in receiving and storing deliveries properly. Comply with all federal, state, and local health regulations and school policies. Work collaboratively with kitchen and cafeteria staff in a fast-paced environment, standing for long periods and lifting up to 40 lbs. Schedule is Monday through Friday during daytime hours following the school calendar, with no evenings, weekends, or holidays.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to follow recipes, food safety procedures, and production schedules
- Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, loud, and sometimes stressful school cafeteria environment
- Able to stand for long periods and lift up to 40 lbs
- Must pass all required background checks per NYS and school district guidelines
Desired Qualifications
- Prior cooking experience in a school, cafeteria, or commercial kitchen
