Job Summary
Cook large-batch meals for Meal Program, reading and scaling recipes to prepare, cook, and package meals. Operate kettles, tilt skillets, ovens and other commercial kitchen equipment. Supervise and assist volunteers during production and packaging. Maintain cleanliness and compliance with NYC Department of Health regulations; accurately label, date, and store prepared meals. Cross-train and assist with other kitchen functions as needed. Requires 2+ years of institutional cooking experience, ability to read recipes in English, strong math/communication skills, NYC Food Protection Certificate or SERV Safe Certification, ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs (up to 100 lbs occasionally), and a flexible schedule including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of large-batch or institutional cooking experience
- Ability to read and follow recipes in English
- Strong math and communication skills
- NYC Food Protection Certificate or SERV Safe Certification (required)
- Able to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs (occasionally up to 100 lbs)
- Flexible schedule required — availability for early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays
