Job Summary
Cook responsible for managing and operating the kitchen in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor; prepare and serve meals for residents, follow prepared menus and portion control guides, and prepare special diets accurately. Duties include maintaining a safe, sanitary kitchen; recording food temperatures; preparing puree foods when needed; supervising in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor; assisting with serving meals; coordinating with dietary staff; participating in orientation and training of dietary staff; presenting appealing meals and ensuring hygiene and cleanliness. Requires High School diploma or equivalent, 1 year of hospital/long-term care cooking experience, ServSafe certification, and ability to read and interpret recipes and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience as a cook in a hospital or long-term care facility for at least 1 year
- Must obtain and maintain ServSafe Certificate
- Ability to read technical procedures and recipes
- Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently
- Ability to prepare meals for residents and to follow prepared menus and portion control guides
- Ability to prepare special diets accurately
- Record food temperatures for meals
- Ability to work cooperatively with personnel in all departments
- Must remain in good standing with the Department of Public Health
