Job Summary
The Cook is responsible for the preparation and delivery of all foods for residents, guests, and employees. Key responsibilities include following daily production charts, ensuring proper food handling techniques, preparing foods for therapeutic/specialty diets, and adhering to health and safety regulations. Qualifications include possession of a Food Handler's Certificate, experience in large quantity food preparation in a healthcare setting, knowledge of food regulations, and the ability to lift heavy items. The role requires participation in planning special occasion meals and compliance with dietary department policies.
Required Qualifications
- Must possess a Food Handler's Certificate
- Red Seal Certificate preferred
- Experience in large quantity food preparation, preferably in a healthcare or retirement setting
- Knowledge of the Provincial Food Premises Regulation and Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating
- Knowledge of and experience with special and therapeutic diets
- Physically able to lift and transfer heavy, hot items and stand for the majority of shift
- Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one
Desired Qualifications
- Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset
