Job Summary
Prepare and serve breakfast and dinner at the Banyan central kitchen for up to 50 adults and children in FESCO's emergency and transitional housing programs. Assist with menu planning, grocery shopping, food bank pickups, and transporting meals while maintaining a safe, sanitary kitchen environment. Set up dining areas, manage kitchen clean-up, and direct staff and volunteers regarding food service. Keep records required by the Child and Adult Care Food Program, track inventory, and ensure residents sign up for and save their meals. Work Thursday through Monday from 12:30 pm until 6:00 pm, clocking in/out accurately and reporting timekeeping issues promptly. Maintain a warm, welcoming environment and uphold the agency's mission while collaborating with diverse populations.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Must possess a current ServSafe food safety certification
- Experience in prep/cooking in a food services setting
- Basic knowledge of food hygiene and safe kitchen practices including the use of commercial equipment and tools
- Clear Tuberculosis (TB) test from within the last 60 days
- Valid CA Driver's license
- Ability to occasionally or frequently stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms above the shoulders
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
- Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently
- Ability to stand and move from one location to another daily
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to visually focus on near and far items, and to be able to switch between them
- Ability to hear and effectively communicate with co-workers, clients, and the public
- Ability to identify potential issues within the workplace, determine an appropriate means of avoiding and/or resolving the issues, work with others to address the issues, and carry out organized strategies for resolving and preventing similar issues in the future
- Ability to process information and data for use within the organization
- Ability to reliably report to work on time and perform the position's required tasks as scheduled
- Ability to grasp and carry items
Desired Qualifications
- Culinary training
- Experience working in supportive housing or similar environment
- Spanish Bilingual
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Experience in non-profit and community-based organizations
