Job Summary
Prepare, cook, bake, and serve large quantities of foods including rolls, breads, meats, and salads at an assigned school site while maintaining strict sanitation and safety standards. Monitor food and water temperatures, adjust recipes for nutritional requirements, and operate standard kitchen equipment such as mixers, fryers, and dishwashers. Train and provide work direction to others, record food sales and inventory, and assist with special events and banquets. This full-time role involves 180 days per school year with a 6.25-hour daily schedule. Candidates must complete a certification course for school food personnel and possess basic cashiering skills.
Required Qualifications
- high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D.
- one year experience in cooking and baking food in large quantities
- Must complete training course for certification of beginning school food personnel as prescribed in 702 KAR 6:045
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance
- Prepare, cook, bake and serve a variety of foods in quantity at an assigned food service facility
- Prepare and serve food in accordance with health and sanitation regulations
- Operate and maintain standard machines and equipment found in school cafeterias and kitchens
- Prepare attractive, appetizing and nutritious meals for students and staff
- Lift, bend, reach and stand
- Lift heavy objects
- Follow, adjust and extend recipes
- Understand and follow oral and written directions
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Read and write at a level required for successful job performance
