Job Summary
Prepare and serve nutritious meals to children, adolescents, and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder or Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and individual dietary needs. Collaborate with residential, educational, and clinical staff to support structured daily routines through meal service while maintaining kitchen cleanliness and managing inventory. Monitor food temperatures, record logs, and apply crisis intervention training techniques to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals served. Work Sunday through Thursday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM in a therapeutic, trauma-informed environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to pass all background and health clearances
- Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions accurately and efficiently
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure or during periods of high activity
- Ability to build respectful and supportive interactions with youth and staff
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold agency policies and ethical standards
- Active certification in agency-approved crisis intervention training
- Competency in de-escalation strategies
- Competency in safe physical interventions
- Adherence to agency protocols
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards as set by state and federal guidelines
- Understanding of menu planning, food preparation techniques, and nutritional guidelines
- Familiarity with food allergies, texture modifications, and other special dietary needs
- Awareness of trauma-informed care principles in a residential or therapeutic environment
- Understanding of the role of nutrition in behavioral and developmental health
- Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds and assist individuals with daily living activities
- Ability to be on feet for extended periods
- Ability to complete and maintain relevant certifications (e.g., First Aid/CPR, crisis intervention)
Desired Qualifications
- One year of cooking experience in an institutional, residential, or school-based setting
- ServSafe certification
