Controls Technician

Job Summary

Conduct startup and commissioning of new installations while reviewing system prints to confirm functionality as designed. Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLC systems including Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff, and Schneider Electric, and generate installation and commissioning reports. Act as the liaison between customers, contractors, and the delivery team to communicate installation status, risks, and impacts to the project schedule. Provide remote and on-site technical support to diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and control system issues during startup. Conduct training for operations and maintenance teams and gather feedback from subcontractors to improve installation processes. Work with PMs and PEs to de-risk field issues, implement quality control measures, and provide daily updates on project status and punch list items. Travel up to 5 days per week to industrial facilities across the US and Canada, with extended hours required during commissioning.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Controls Technician
  • 3–5+ years of experience in industrial controls, automation, or field service
  • Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting experience with Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff, and Schneider Electric
  • Experience diagnosing complex and intermittent system failures
  • Strong understanding of electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems
  • Experience commissioning and troubleshooting industrial equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and layouts
  • Demonstrated success supporting technical project teams
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • High level of ownership, urgency, and attention to detail
  • Ability to coordinate multiple teams during installation phases
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive/SharePoint, and Project
  • Experience with remote meeting tools (Teams, Zoom, Webex)
  • Ability to make and modify existing PLC programs
  • Working in the field performing installation and commissioning tasks approximately 60–80% of the time
  • Industrial facilities at customer locations across various industries
  • Standard work week M–F (extended hours as required during commissioning)
  • Travel up to 5 days per week (US & Canada)
  • Valid US Passport
