Controls Systems Engineer II
$79,919–$103,895 year
HybridBridgeton, Missouri, United States
Job Summary
Develop and refine multi-axis stabilization, pointing, and tracking control laws for precision gimbal/servo systems using frequency-domain methods and root locus analysis. Create dynamic plant models to correlate test data and support real-time embedded implementation of control algorithms across software and hardware teams. Perform critical trade studies on sensor selection, actuator sizing, and filtering strategies while specifying supplier components affecting closed-loop dynamics. Support system integration, verification, and validation activities, including test planning, data review, and corrective actions for production improvements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and communicate technical information impacting design and product support. Complete activities on time and budget while occasionally traveling within CONUS.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent
- 2+ years of experience in classical feedback control design and analysis for physical systems (servo/motion control preferred)
- Demonstrated expertise in traditional control system theory and application: frequency-domain methods (Bode/Nyquist), root locus/loop shaping, stability margins, and performance tradeoffs
- Working knowledge of state-space methods (controllability/observability, pole placement, observers/estimators) and digital control fundamentals (sampling/discretization, delays/latency, quantization)
- Experience implementing and supporting control algorithms in real-time/embedded environments and collaborating across Software/Hardware for integration and test
- Proficiency with MATLAB and Simulink (or equivalent) for model-based control development, analysis, and closed-loop verification
- Possess excellent analytical and communication skills, written and oral
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and TEAMS)
