Controls Service Technician

Job Summary
Startup and commission new HVAC DDC BACnet/IP control systems on new construction and retrofit sites, performing wiring checkout, hardware configuration, and I/O testing. Troubleshoot network, software, and hosted-system malfunctions while capturing product licensing, firmware updates, and database documentation. Handle emergency service calls and service agreement tasks, documenting progress, customer signatures, and as-built updates. Collaborate with team members to share technical solutions and provide customer training on design strategies and system offerings.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum two years of experience in a mechanical capacity
- Minimum two years of experience in systems including on-the-job experience as a systems/mechanical specialist
- Strong knowledge of building automation systems, HVAC, mechanical systems, electrical concepts, and operations
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Mathematical abilities to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration, and percent and create and interpret graphs
- Strong problem-solving ability
- Valid driver license
- Must be able to differentiate types/colors of wire
- Must be able to use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet
- Ability to work in a team environment providing dedicated support to our customers
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English
- Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization
- Requires frequent travel through Kansas and the Midwest
- Requires occasional overnight stays
- Requires the ability to carry, lift, move or push up to 100 pounds on a regular basis
- Ability to see up close and distant, distinguish colors, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
- Ability to read and understand design and construction documents
- Proven electro-mechanical aptitude (based on previous experience and/or education) and user PC/software skills
- Experience in installing or servicing electronic control systems
- Experience installing and servicing electronic control or HVAC equipment
- Understanding of the design of large, standard jobs and the role that tools, products, and practices play in that design
- Strong knowledge of industry engineering fundamentals and business operations
- Ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high-lift equipment; working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, above ceilings, and in outside/inside/heat/cold/day/night conditions
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in installing or servicing electronic control systems; 6+ years preferred
- Microsoft, Cisco, EIT, ASHRE, NICET, or CISSP certifications are a plus
- Technical school certificates, not required but preferred
