Job Summary
Controls Engineer responsible for planning, overseeing, and coordinating the development, design, construction, modification, and maintenance of PLC-based automated control systems in an industrial plant. Partner with mechanical engineers, line and plant managers to design, develop, and commission automation and power-management systems, provide field-service system integration, and offer technical consultation for system design, programming, installation, start-up, maintenance, repair, training, and modification of automated control systems. Lead project efforts when required, write PLC code (Siemens), design HMI interfaces, ensure safety and reliable operation, verify wiring and diagnostics, and perform on-site commissioning with travel to other sites as needed; travel up to 25% and potential collaboration across multiple Idaho locations (Fruitland and Meridian).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science – Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science is desirable
- 5 years working with PLC’s and Control Systems
- 3 years electrical trouble shooting
- experience designing control systems, panels and instrumentation and motor controls for industrial application
- Strong communication, interpersonal skills and presentation skills
- Demonstrated experience in project management and leadership
- commitment to teamwork and continuous improvement environment
- ability to define and analyze problems and develop effective solutions
- experience with HMI’s and PLC programming
- familiarity with design of automation systems and safety precautions
- travel willingness up to 25%
