Job Summary
Controls Engineer (Instrumentation and Controls) responsible for designing and delivering control systems for industrial and process projects from architecture through startup. Responsibilities include developing control system architecture, P&IDs, flow diagrams, and control sequences across multiple concurrent projects; conducting risk/hazard analyses; building project tools like instrument indexes and BOMs; creating and reviewing electrical schematics and control panel layouts with AutoCAD Electrical; programming and integrating PLCs and HMIs (Allen Bradley, Siemens, GE, Wago); executing system testing at in-house and customer sites; leading I/O checkout, instrumentation calibration, and PID loop tuning; supporting startup and commissioning; developing contractor scope documents and wire schedules for installation; and traveling 25–40% nationally for design reviews, installation oversight, and commissioning.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- 5+ years of PLC system design, programming, and field startup experience
- 5+ years of ladder logic programming
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical for schematic development
- Background in engine test cell controls or similar high-complexity environments
- Ability to create and interpret P&IDs
- Experience managing multiple projects with shifting scope and deadlines
