Job Summary

Controls Engineer responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing high-power motor controls and power conversion subsystems for aerospace/defense applications. Lead design reviews, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with mechanical/software/systems teams to deliver robust control solutions. Role emphasizes hands-on engineering from design through deployment and testing, onsite at the Hanover, Maryland facility. Requires 10+ years in motor controls, extensive knowledge of three-phase brushless motors, proficiency with CAD/Simulation tools (Altium Designer, SPICE, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MATLAB), experience with relevant test equipment, and US citizenship with ability to obtain DoD security clearance. Strong communication and documentation skills are essential.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or advanced degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or closely related field (electrical concentration)
  • Minimum 10+ years of practical technical experience focused on motor controls and power conversion subsystems (design, development, analysis, simulation, testing)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government DoD security clearance; active clearances preferred
  • US citizenship required due to government contract requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of three-phase brushless motors and control systems, including modulation techniques and flux estimation
  • Experience designing motor controls and drive circuits for noise, EMI/EMC, and thermal management optimization
  • Proficiency with CAD/Simulation/Analysis tools (e.g., Altium Designer, SPICE, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MATLAB, MathCAD)
  • Experience with test equipment (oscilloscopes, dynamometers, spectrum analyzers)
  • Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and oral communication; ability to produce detailed documentation and deliver effective presentations
  • Practical experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Lead and supervise portions of electrical/control system designs; mentoring engineers/technicians
  • Willingness to engage in hands-on engineering from design to deployment and testing
  • Ability to collaborate with mechanical, software, and systems engineers
  • Current or required ability to obtain security clearance
  • On-site work at facility in Hanover, Maryland
