Job Summary
Controls Engineer responsible for developing, modifying, and maintaining manufacturing data collection and data sharing systems; develop PLC code and machine control configuration and validation for production and support equipment; document work instructions and procedures for software validation and qualification; design and maintain machine-vision systems and ensure high-quality output; provide technical support for automation equipment across multiple plants with travel to other QSR facilities; ensure production equipment meets safety and environmental standards; identify and implement advances to reduce cost, improve quality and efficiency; manage vendors/contractors to execute scopes of work; participate in continuous improvement, corrective actions, and root-cause investigations.
Required Qualifications
- BS/MS in an Engineering field (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Control Systems, Computer Science and Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, etc.)
- 3-5 years of experience as a hands-on Controls Engineer or Applications Engineer working on automation and/or electromechanical systems
- Proficiency in programming industrial process and manufacturing equipment (PLCs: Omron, Siemens, Allen Bradley)
- HMI / GUI programming (Ignition, Siemens Comfort Panel, AB Panelview, Wonderware)
- Ability to program machine vision systems and image processing software (Teledyne Dalsa, Cognex, Keyence, Basler, Fanuc)
- Proficiency programming and tuning variable frequency drives
- Advanced proficiency with text-based languages (Python, VB, .NET, C, C++)
- Experience transitioning products and processes from concept to production
- Configuration of controls networks (ProfiNet, DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP)
- Serial communications (RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, ProfiBus, BacNet) between PLCs and instruments/microcontrollers
- Ethernet communications between machine PLCs and databases
- Proficiency with database systems (MSSQL, MySQL, Access)
- CAD/Schematic work (AutoCAD); 3D CAD experience (Revit)
- Exposure to production machinery, sensors (temperature, pressure, etc.)
- Experience with Cartesian/SCARA/Articulated robots (Fanuc,Kuka,Motoman,Mitsubishi) is a plus
- Experience creating technical specifications for process or manufacturing equipment
- Travel to other QSR facilities as needed
