Job Summary
Develop cost-effective control systems for custom machinery, including hardware design, programming, safety analysis, and technical documentation. Analyze technical challenges to devise creative solutions and lead major project components while balancing technical work with project coordination. Provide guidance for shop personnel during electrical assembly and lead control system debugs, offering on-site installation and customer training. Deliver initial cost estimates for quotations and collaborate with the Applications Engineering team to evaluate project feasibility. Mentor junior engineers through code and design reviews, delegate tasks appropriately, and communicate project status and obstacles to stakeholders. Identify process inefficiencies to propose improvements and stay current with new automation technologies to lead their implementation.

- Provide initial estimates of control system costs for quotations, based on understanding of mechanical concept and customer requirements
- Cooperate with the Applications Engineering team to evaluate project feasibility
- Works across teams and disciplines to ensure alignment
- Actively mentors junior engineers
- Conducts code/design reviews
- Work proactively and independently to complete projects on time and within budget
- Motivate self and others in a positive and professional manner
- Delegate appropriately to engineering support and shop personnel
- Understand and effectively communicate project status and potential obstacles to success
- Effectively communicate with customers and vendors to ensure successful project completion
- Lead project teams as required
- Identifies inefficiencies and proposes improvements
- Keep current with new technology, engineering methods, and standards within the automation industry
- Participate in and lead the implementation of new engineering methods and technologies
- Facilitate the professional development of self and colleagues by constructively sharing lessons learned through project successes and failures
- Participate in training and mentoring of other employees as appropriate
