Job Summary
Controller at Wantable leading and shaping the finance function for a growing ecommerce fashion brand. Responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations (general ledger, accounts payable, inventory/COGS/sales accounting, reconciliations, month-end close), mentoring the finance team, and ensuring timely GAAP-compliant financial reporting. Drives cash flow forecasting, analyzes inventory, reserves, returns, fulfillment costs, and margin performance, and ensures integrity of data flowing through Wantable’s proprietary platform in collaboration with engineering. Improves controls, reconciliation processes, and scalability of financial workflows; partners with operations, merchandising, technology, and leadership to translate financial data into actionable recommendations and support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning. Focuses on automation, analytics, and AI-enabled tools to enhance reporting timeliness and accuracy; works with external partners on audits and tax and coordinates with the fractional CFO. Emphasizes ownership, collaboration, hands-on problem solving, and a results-oriented approach in a fast-paced, innovative ecommerce environment.
Required Qualifications
- Progressive accounting and finance experience with leadership responsibility in a Controller or similar senior role
- Experience in the accounting and finance side of ecommerce, retail, apparel or inventory-intensive businesses
- Success operating in a high-volume, tech-integrated environment
- Proven experience managing month-end close, audits, budgeting/forecasting, and cash flow reporting
- Deep knowledge of GAAP accounting and financial reporting best practices (inventory, returns, reserves, fulfillment costs, sales taxes)
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
- Curiosity toward researching and leveraging AI and automation tools to improve efficiency and decision-making
- Organizational, collaborative, hands-on, proactive and solutions-oriented work style
- CPA license (nice to have)
- Experience with process improvements and automation/AI-driven solutions (nice to have)
- QuickBooks experience and training (nice to have)
- Interest in leveraging automation and data to drive financial insights
