Job Summary

Direct all accounting and financial operations for the Orange County Council, including maintaining the general ledger, overseeing month-end and year-end closes, and preparing accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Monitor cash flow, investments, and reserves while developing forecasts to support long-range financial planning. Oversee accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and fixed assets, then coordinate the annual operating budget and analyze departmental spending variances. Lead the annual financial audit, ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit standards, and prepare reports for executive leadership, the Executive Board, and the Finance Committee. Supervise accounting staff, establish internal controls, and foster professional development.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • 7-10 years of progressively responsible accounting experience
  • 3-5 years of supervisory or management experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
  • Strong knowledge of Fund and grant accounting
  • Strong knowledge of Internal controls
  • Strong knowledge of Budget development and financial reporting
  • Strong knowledge of Payroll accounting
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial management systems
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial audiences
  • Sound judgment, integrity, and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and nonprofit accounting software
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with leadership, staff, volunteers, auditors, and Board members

Desired Qualifications

  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with financial statement preparation, budgeting, audits, Board reporting, and fund accounting
  • CPA designation
  • Experience with nonprofit fund accounting and donor-restricted funds
  • Experience supporting volunteer boards and Finance Committees
  • Familiarity with fundraising operations and grant administration
  • Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge, Sage Intacct, MIP Fund Accounting, or similar nonprofit accounting systems
