Controller, Accounting Operations & FP&A
$125,000–$150,000 year
RemoteUnited States
Job Summary
Own day-to-day accounting operations across payroll, AR, AP, reconciliations, and month-end close to maintain clean records for leadership, board, and audit reporting. Lead the close process with a focus on speed, accuracy, and repeatability while overseeing a direct report. Build and improve financial reporting packages to support monthly variance analysis, forecasting, and longer-term planning exercises. Assess the current tech stack to automate month-end close, reconciliations, and AP workflows, improving capacity through better processes rather than headcount. Help fold in accounting operations for a recently acquired business line, creating scalable processes for fixed-price services revenue and aligning GLs and reporting. Establish a clearer operating rhythm across close, reporting, and finance inputs to prepare for upcoming budgeting, audit, and sponsor-backed reporting needs.
Required Qualifications
- Strong Controller-level experience owning accounting operations in a smaller or mid-sized business where finance and accounting responsibilities are not overly siloed
- Comfortable being the person accountable for the GL, close, reporting accuracy, and accounting process discipline
- Meaningful exposure to FP&A, forecasting, variance analysis, budgeting, or board reporting
- Experience with professional services, project-based accounting, or other operationally complex revenue models
- Experience supporting a business that also has subscription or SaaS-style revenue
- Either participated in acquisition integration work before or have strong adjacent experience that shows you can quickly organize new entities, business lines, systems, and reporting flows
- Comfortable working directly with senior finance leadership and being a reliable leverage point for better reporting, analysis, and operating cadence
- Hands-on, fast, precise, and willing to improve the process while still doing the underlying accounting work well
- Remote role availability
Desired Qualifications
- ERP implementation, accounting system implementation, forecasting tool implementation, or finance systems modernization experience
- Automation experience across close, reconciliations, AP, reporting, or recurring finance workflows
- Experience preparing data for lenders, debt reporting, covenant tracking, or quarterly lender packages
- GovCon accounting exposure, including Unanet, Deltek Costpoint, DCAA-adjacent reporting, project accounting, or federal contractor finance environments
- Experience in a multi-service-line business with a mix of project-based, fixed-price, managed services, and subscription-style revenue
- Audit support experience in a sponsor-backed or acquisition-oriented environment
