Job Summary
Controller/accountant role in Lansing Area offering part-time work. Responsible for supporting financial management across client projects, providing controller-level services (book closure, oversight of accounting processes), reviewing/reconciling records, suggesting improvements to procedures and systems, evaluating and implementing accounting software tools, and preparing and reviewing financial statements and management reports. Emphasizes delivering clear, actionable insights to help clients understand and use their financial data. Requires extensive accounting experience (BA with 10+ years), supervisory or project-lead experience (2+ years), and strong leadership, communication, and software skills. MBA or master’s in accounting is preferred; CPA is preferred. In-person work with Lansing area presence; multi-client accounting focus; strong organization, detail orientation, and ability to work independently. The role targets senior-level expertise with client management and cross-project accountability.
Required Qualifications
- BA in accounting, business administration, business management, or other related field
- 10+ years accounting experience
- 2+ years supervisory or project lead experience
- MBA or master’s in accounting, or other related field (preferred)
- CPA preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly proficient with accounting software, implementation, troubleshooting
- Fully proficient in Microsoft Office with advanced computer skills and software savvy
- Strong business acumen
- Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting
- Strong technical and inter-personal leadership
- Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Excellent organizational skills, high degree of accuracy, attention to detail
- Exceptional project and time management skills
- Ability to balance multiple priorities, projects, and clients
- Able to work independently
- Customer service orientation and negotiation skills
