Job Summary
Controller position leading all accounting and financial operations for a growing mid-Atlantic construction firm, overseeing general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, month-end close, job costing and WIP, budgeting and cash flow, GAAP compliance, audits, financial reporting, and process improvements. Requires operating with senior leadership to drive profitability and efficiency, mentoring accounting staff, and partnering with operational leaders on strategic decisions. Strong construction accounting knowledge (WIP, job costing, contract billing) and experience with ERP/accounting software (Sage, Foundation, Viewpoint) are essential. CPA preferred but not required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 7+ years of accounting/finance experience with at least 3 years in the construction industry
- Strong understanding of construction accounting principles including WIP reporting and job costing
- Construction contract management and billing preferred
- Financial modeling and operational analysis preferred
- Experience with ERP/accounting software such as Sage, Foundation, Viewpoint, or similar systems
- CPA preferred but not required
- Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
