Job Summary
Control Room Operator at Linden, NJ power plant responsible for monitoring and operating DCS panels, turbines, HRSGs, and associated equipment; ensure safe, efficient plant operation; respond to alarms, start-up/shut-down procedures, regulate loads, and maintain logs. Role involves coordinating with Shift Supervisor, ensuring design-limit adherence, handling hazardous materials, and contributing to staff training and plant performance improvements. Requires power-plant operations knowledge, DCS proficiency, engines and turbine experience, hazardous materials handling, safety/environmental compliance, TWIC and NJ steam-licensure, and a 12-hour rotating shift schedule. Compensation starts at $59.50/hour with 24/7 coverage expectations and potential for on-call work; local licensure and driving credentials required.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate degree in power plant technology, related technical field, or engineering (preferred)
- Valid New Jersey Class I (Black Seal) Steam Engineer’s License (required)
- New Jersey Class II (Blue Seal) Steam Engineer’s License (preferred, or ability to obtain within timeframe)
- TWIC card (to obtain upon hire)
- Experience as a Control Room Operator or similar position at an operating or generating plant (required)
- Knowledge of power plant operations, control room functions, and closed system generation
- Ability to train and lead personnel in safe operation
- Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license
- Ability to understand procedures and instructions and interpret piping & instrument diagrams, DCS logic, and operational procedures
- Ability to work in a 12-hour rotating shift, including weekends/holidays
- Ability to respond to safety and environmental standards and maintain safe operating conditions
