Job Summary

The Controls Engineer will provide programming, installation and maintenance to new and existing production equipment, with proficiency in Siemens PLCs. Responsibilities include setting up PLC ladder logic and robot interfacing, implementing cycle-time improvements for robotic welding and assemblies, training personnel on robots and PLCs, and supporting Magna Body & Chassis safety, quality and environmental policies. The role requires a two- to four-year degree in mechanical engineering or related field (or equivalent experience) and/or about 4 years of relevant experience, along with PLC knowledge, electrical understanding per the NEC, and strong communication skills. Physical responsibilities include handling tasks in a factory setting, with emphasis on safety and collaboration with vendors/contractors.

Required Qualifications

  • Two or four year degree in mechanical engineering or related field and/or 4 years job related experience
  • Solid knowledge of metal stamping, spot welding and assembly processes
  • Proven knowledge of PLCs and programming with the ability to program/teach robots
  • Electrical knowledge (National Electrical Code) and control wiring
  • Ability to read/write/interpret reports, instructions, blueprints, diagrams and technical procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work in safety-focused environment
  • Ability to work with vendors and contractors
