Job Summary
Consumer Underwriter responsible for assessing creditworthiness of consumer loan applicants and making approval/denial decisions with substantial loan authority. Analyze financial and credit information to determine repayment ability, promote credit union products, and determine loan amounts, interest rates, and terms based on applicant credit worthiness. Review loan requests, identify collateral needs, and assist in compliance and interpretation of supporting documentation. Handle complex loans, communicate with loan officers to resolve questions, and prepare files for closing. Maintain knowledge of industry regulations and lending guidelines, collaborate on rate changes, and ensure policies are followed. Build courteous professional relationships with internal and external members. Requires extended hours during the week and Saturdays. Location: Battle Creek, MI.
Required Qualifications
- One to Three years similar or related experience with a proven track record of handling complex cases
- Ability to review and analyze personal and business tax returns
- Ability to analyze consumer credit reports
- Knowledge of consumer lending regulations, terms and practices preferred
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess risk effectively
- Strong computer skills including the Microsoft Suite
- Strong attention to detail, and excellent time management skills
- Effective communication skills, written and oral
- Ability to interact with others on a regular basis and build relationships
- This position requires extended hours during the week and on Saturdays
