Consumer Banking Litigation – Assistant General Counsel

Job Summary
Strategically lead and manage a portfolio of litigation matters from intake through resolution, including case strategy, pleadings, discovery, dispositive motions, trial preparation, settlement/mediation, and appeals. Defend the Firm in litigation involving Consumer and Community banking products and services, while conducting early case assessments to develop strategic litigation plans with exposure analysis and settlement posture. Retain, instruct, and actively manage outside counsel regarding scope, staffing, budget, and quality control. Lead fact development and discovery, including document preservation, privilege review, deposition preparation, and e-discovery vendor oversight. Provide pre-litigation counseling to firm leaders to prevent disputes and mitigate risk. Identify recurring themes to create playbooks and guidance that reduce repeat litigation risk.
Required Qualifications
- At least 5 years of post-admission legal practicing experience
- JD degree
- Knowledge of, and experience with, complex financial products and services
- Ability to assume significant independent responsibility immediately
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Outstanding organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously
- All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment
