Job Summary

Conduct identification, inspection, and evaluation of trees and brush along utility lines, then submit results with recommendations to clients. Plan, direct, and coordinate activities of assigned tree clearance crews while negotiating access issues and serving as a liaison between clients, crews, and customers. Perform vegetation management duties specifically as a new construction vegetation planner for Xcel Energy. Work independently in varied terrain and inclement weather with flexible schedules including nights and weekends. Requires a degree in forestry or related field, valid driver's license, and strong communication skills.

Required Qualifications

  • 2 year or 4 year degree in forestry, horticulture, environmental science or closely related field OR in lieu of a degree, High school diploma or GED plus 2 years of experience in Utility Vegetation Management or other related field (Ex. general Right-of-Way management, Integrated Vegetation Management, nursery work or timber cutting, etc.), High school diploma requirement can be waived with 5 years UVM experience
  • ISA Arborist, ISA Utility Specialist and/or TRAQ certification
  • Vegetation management experience
  • Competent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience working with GIS integrated data collection software/hardware
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Must be organized
  • Must be production oriented
  • Must be comfortable working in an independent environment and managing a geographical area for all vegetation related activities
  • Must be able to work with stakeholders, utility customers and line clearance vendors and have excellent interpersonal skill
  • Must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skill
  • Multi-tasking and strong time management skills
  • Ability to work in varied terrain and inclement weather with flexible schedules (available nights and weekends as needed)
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Pre-employment drug screening
  • Background check

Desired Qualifications

  • ISA Arborist, ISA Utility Specialist and/or TRAQ certification strongly preferred
  • Vegetation management experience preferred
  • Experience working with GIS integrated data collection software/hardware preferred but not required
