Job Summary
Perform structural engineering work for new and existing structures, including concrete, steel, and mass timber designs for residential, institutional, and commercial projects. Coordinate with architects and contractors to manage projects independently while supervising junior engineers. Develop retrofitting solutions and conduct engineering studies to address design issues, utilizing advanced modeling techniques and BIM tools. Prepare technical reports, sketches, and data visualizations for clients and regulators, ensuring compliance with construction codes and site safety standards. Maintain quality control procedures and adhere to company policies while working flexible schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific needs.
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
- 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience
- Engineer in Training Certification
- Knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues
- Detailed understanding of seismic design procedures, ductility, and mechanics of different building materials
- Basic knowledge of linear and non-linear finite element analysis and performance-based design
- Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design
- Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements
- Knowledge with process and concepts for sustainability and reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances/greenhouse gas
- Knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey technical concepts effectively and professionally to engineering and non-engineering audiences
- Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies
- Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, physics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools
- A member of and/or actively participating in local professional practice organizations
- Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., ETABS, RAM Structural System, RAM Concept, SAP, Perform3D, spSlab, spColumn, VisualAnalysis, Revit, AutoCAD, etc.)
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements

- California Professional Engineer (PE) License
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120)
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training
