Job Summary

Provide specialized legal and practical guidance to the Private Trust business across Canada. Responsibilities include supporting fiduciary decisions as part of the Regional Discretionary Powers Committee; reviewing legal documentation (e.g., settlement agreements, notices of application, draft orders, management plans, affidavits, legal opinions); reviewing service agreements, fee schedules, and internal forms/letters; updating and enforcing policies; maintaining relationships with Compliance, Legal, Governance and Control; assisting with monthly Business Risk meetings; staying current on legislative changes and industry practices; performing policy management and governance-related tasks; handling ad hoc projects; and delivering prompt, risk-appropriate decisions and solutions. Requires strong analytical and communication abilities, teamwork and the capacity to work independently with minimal oversight, and comfort engaging with senior management and external departments.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in an estate and trust environment
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking ability
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently with minimal oversight
  • Ability to review legislation and regulation and undertake legal research
  • Self-motivated and resourceful
  • Ability to develop external networking relationships and represent the trust company within the industry
