Job Summary
Lead and perform engineering design work for drinking water and wastewater utility projects, including studies, analysis, and design of treatment and distribution systems. Coordinate development of cost estimates by preparing quantity take-offs and supporting project managers in defining scope, budgets, and schedules. Setup and lead hydraulic modeling for water and sewer systems while preparing plans and drawings using industry-standard design platforms. Facilitate utility relocations and maintain quality control standards for accurate measurements and reporting. Lead preparation of technical reports, site Health and Safety Plans, and environmental data interpretations for threat mitigation activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline
- 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in water resources engineering
- Engineer in Training Certification
- Knowledge of water resource engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to environmental permitting and project work-related issues
- Knowledge of Water/Wastewater design, Stormwater Management, Drainage, Erosion and Sediment Control, Hydrology & Hydraulics Design, Watershed Studies, Floodplain Delineation, etc
- Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements
- Knowledge with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products, and mitigation programs
- Knowledge of the techniques used in identifying, measuring, sampling and studying environmental control
- Knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements
- Basic experience with preparing permit applications for oversight agencies to address the full range of environmental issues and conditions associated with water resources projects
- Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
- Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies
- Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools
- Familiarity with surface water analysis, hydrologic methodologies/models (TR-55, HEC-HMS, etc.), hydraulic models (HEC-RAS, HEC-RAS-2D, HEC-GeoRAS, SRH-2D, etc), and with ESRI ArcGIS software
- Experience with coordinating technical matters with public and private groups
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements

- Essential Professional Licensure/Certification
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120)
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training
- Ability to use CAD software
