Construction Resident Engineer

Job Summary

Oversee daily construction activities as the on-site representative, ensuring compliance with design specifications, schedules, budgets, and safety standards. Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies while conducting site inspections, leading field meetings, and reviewing submittals, RFIs, and change orders. Maintain accurate documentation including daily reports and logs, identify project risks, and enforce OSHA policies. Participate in project meetings to prepare status reports for senior management. Work with the billing team for invoicing and payment processing while monitoring contract cost and schedule. Requires NJ Professional Engineer License and NJDOT experience.

Required Qualifications

  • NJ Professional Engineer License
  • NJDOT experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in construction supervision, site engineering, or resident engineering
  • Ability to supervise staff
  • Experience working on highway, bridge and/or rail projects
  • Working knowledge of shop drawing review, scheduling, permitting and inspection requirements
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to overall team success
  • Strong knowledge of construction codes, safety regulations, and industry standards
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and leadership skills
  • Authorized to work in the United States; Visa sponsorship is not available for this role

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with large-scale or multi-site program management environments
  • Familiarity with project delivery methods (e.g., Design-Bid-Build, CM/GC, Design- Build)
  • Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6, MS Project)
